This is a car and detail I hold very close to my heart, as this is the very car I grew up dreaming of. I still have the 1:18 die cast model my father bought me when i was about 10 years old.
This particular car ended up in the EAD studio because of the outcome of the silent auction for an unlimited detail package, during the 2013 Karz4Kidz charity car show, sponsored by yours truly. After a nearly 2-month wait, the car came in for it's 4 day restoration.
Originally, this car's paint was a single stage solid black finish, however, some areas had been repainted with time, and therefor no preset package was going to be used and everything would have to be custom tailored to every panel. Paint thickness readings were all over the place, so I went for the maximum correction I could safely achieve over the entire car without risking to burn through the finish. This meant that the overall result could not be 100%, but would rather hover around the 90% mark. Enjoy!

At arrival, it was clear that this car needed some serious attention. The tires were covered in silicone-based dressing which need to be removed to ensure the final result would not be spoiled with sling.
Since this was an unlimited detail, the wheels were removed for a complete cleaning. Issues to be dealt with were 2 decades of built up break dust, balancing weight residue, tar and silicone-based tire dressing.
Once the paint had been degreased and decontaminated, the "Truth" was very obvious. Swirls, RIDS (Random Individual Deep Scratches), holograms and buffer trails were all over the paint. It had clearly been polished before, but not by a paint reconditioning specialist.
Inside the studio, trims and damageable ares were masked off and the 25-hour correction began.
Once the paint correction was finished, the car was sterilized and waxed with Zymol Ebony, a wax specially formulated for black single stage paints. The interior was given a proper clean and the engine bay was steam cleaned to ensure no water infiltrated critical areas. Here is the final result of 4 days and 30+ hours of work on this iconic car.
